Executive Bios

Richard Rasmus, CEO

Richard Rasmus has been a passionate advocate for homeschooling and virtual schooling for much of his career, providing a wide variety of resources and insights for school systems, teachers, parents and students.

A Harvard MBA, Mr. Rasmus’ career before Calvert included a stint as president and COO, and then CEO of K12 Inc., the nation's largest provider of proprietary curriculum and online education programs for students in kindergarten through high school. Previously, Mr. Rasmus was senior vice president of operations for AOL Broadband and AOL Anywhere; CEO of Flashcom, Inc., and vice president, online services and general manager, Comcast CellularOne at Comcast Corporation.

He is also the founder of two free web resources for homeschoolers and teachers: LessonPathways.com, which provides free K-5 curriculum and planning tools for homeschool and classroom teachers, and Choosyhomeschooler.com, a free homeschooling products search engine and review resource. Rasmus holds a BA degree from Boston University and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.

Gloria D. Julius, Ed.D, Chief Learning Officer

An innovative and results-oriented educational administrator with over 20 years of leadership experience in public schools and private non-profit organizations, Dr. Julius employs a team approach that unites teachers, staff, parents and students in embracing a philosophy of academics first. As the Chief Learning Officer for Calvert Education Services, Dr. Julius has merged the curriculum development and academic teams to create a professional learning community that develops research-based standards aligned curriculum, professional development and exceptional support for parents and students. She has been instrumental in increasing the academic standards, teaching methodologies and proficiency of virtual school students.

Before joining Calvert, Dr. Julius held numerous senior administrative positions in elementary education and was an elementary school teacher for nine years, and has a Doctor of Education from the University of Maryland at College Park. Additionally she holds Advanced Professional Certifications as Superintendent, Principal/Supervisor, Elementary and Middle School, and Early Childhood.

Steven M. Brown, Vice-President of Operations and Technology

Mr. Brown, a pioneer in educational technology and virtual education, developed a “homegrown system” that merged multiple technologies to enable interaction between students and teachers, create robust multi-media educational content, and integrate and automate all business systems from order to fulfillment to educating, and testing students.

Before joining Calvert, Mr. Brown served as the director of technology and operations for Calvert School, assistant vice president of technology for MBNA America, regional MIS manager for Nations Bank and held a number of positions with MNC Financial Inc. including corporate services officer, director of automation support, senior systems analyst and printing services manager.

Mr. Brown holds a BA in Business Administration from Towson University and is certified in multiple system architectures, operating systems and applications.

Scott Moores, Director of School Services

A former commissioned officer in the United States Marine Corps Reserves, Mr. Moores manages and works with Calvert’s virtual school partners to both market and operate those schools.

Before joining Calvert, he was principal and founder of WSM Consulting Associates, helping publishing organizations by leading projects and implementing solutions to business challenges. Prior to that, he held executive-level positions in circulation, marketing, information technology, strategic planning and strategic projects with The Baltimore Sun and Tribune Company, culminating in the position of vice president of organization development. He also organized the corporate “Reading by 9” community literacy initiative.

His teams have won two Times Mirror Innovation Awards, an Engineering Society Award and over a dozen community service and promotional/marketing awards from regional and national organizations. In the non-profit community, Mr. Moores has provided organization development services for the CEO of Baltimore City Public Schools (BCPSS) and served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Fund for Educational Excellence, an organization dedicated to improving education in Baltimore City. He holds an Executive MBA from Loyola College

Brady Locher, Director of Partnership Development

Mr. Locher is responsible for the development of Calvert’s practice providing curriculum and academic support solutions to public and private school systems around the world. Mr. Locher was originally retained by Calvert to explore and subsequently lead the development and launch of Verticy Learning, the first distance learning curriculum specifically designed to address the needs of children with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences.

Prior to joining Calvert Partners, Brady advised academic and technology clients in the effective use of technology-enabled learning strategies. Mr. Locher is a graduate of Georgetown University.
