Individualized instruction that meets rigorous standards
The Calvert Partners virtual school program allows educators to meet the individual educational needs of each enrolled student. Before beginning a course of study, students take a placement exam, including both objective tests and written composition, to evaluate concept knowledge and skills application. Your teachers can then recommend the best curriculum for each child.
Calvert’s courses are based on some of the most rigorous standards, including:
Reading
- Incorporates five core strands from National Reading Panel most effective reading programs: phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension
- Language Arts Courses meet or exceed standards of National Council for Teachers of English Standards
Social Studies
History and geography programs are aligned with:
- National Social Studies and History Standards/National Council for the Social Studies
- National Geography standards endorsed by the National Council for Geographic Education
- National Council for the Teachers of Social Studies
Science
- Written to the National Science Educational Standards to address Benchmarks for Science Literacy
- Meets or exceeds standards established by National Science Teachers Association
Mathematics
- Written to the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) Curriculum Standards and Focal Points
- Emphasis on learning basic skills and applying with higher-level critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Lessons lead students through concept introduction, practice and combination of new material with previously learned skills in an ever expanding spiral of skill development
